Consultant for Presidential Campaign Accused of Illegal Robocall in NH Primary
• Magician Paul Carpenter said he was hired by Steve Kramer, a consultant for Dean Phillips' presidential campaign, to create an AI robocall imitating President Biden's voice to discourage voting in the New Hampshire primary.
• Authorities believe the robocall violating state voter suppression laws. The Phillips campaign has denounced the calls and Kramer's alleged actions.
• Carpenter met Kramer last year and was initially hired to imitate Senator Lindsey Graham before making the Biden audio. He thought Kramer worked for the Biden campaign.
• The robocall was sent to 5,000-25,000 voters, falsely used Biden's voice and catchphrase, and incorrectly said voting in the primary would prevent voting in the general election.
• The number the call came from belonged to Kathy Sullivan, who helps run a super PAC supporting Biden. She said she has not heard from Dean Phillips regarding his consultant's actions.
