California Dominates List of Happiest US Cities as Country's Overall Happiness Declines

California had 3 cities (Fremont, San Jose, San Francisco) in the top 10 happiest US cities in a recent study by SmartAsset.

The study ranked 90 major US cities based on factors like income, life expectancy, marriage rates, and traffic.

Arlington, Virginia ranked #1 overall, while Detroit was last. California had the most cities on the list with 16.

For the first time, the US dropped out of the top 20 happiest countries globally in the World Happiness Report.

The decline in US happiness was partly due to a large drop in well-being reported by Americans under 30.
