McCarthy Ousted as Speaker in Historic Vote; Republicans Divided on His Removal as Scalise and Jordan Vie to Replace Him

Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted from his leadership role in a historic 216-210 vote last week.

The vote to remove McCarthy was led by Rep. Matt Gaetz and supported by all House Democrats and 8 Republicans.

A new poll found Republicans divided on the decision - 25% approved, 30% disapproved, 42% were neutral.

Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Rep. Jim Jordan are top contenders to replace McCarthy as Speaker.

House Republicans are expected to nominate a new Speaker this week in a close race.
