Meta Develops AI That Can Decode Images From Brain Activity

Meta AI developed a new AI system that can decode images from brain activity recorded with magnetoencephalography (MEG).

The system combines MEG scans with an AI model trained on an individual's brainwaves to interpret images.

In demos, the AI could reconstruct images seen by a person in real-time from their brain activity.

The system currently requires training on each new user's brainwaves and can't decode unrelated thoughts.

Meta hopes this research could someday help people who have lost the ability to speak through non-invasive brain-computer interfaces.
