Microsoft lifts compatibility block for certain Windows 10 PCs to upgrade to Windows 11
-
Microsoft lifted a 29-month compatibility hold preventing some Windows 10 systems from upgrading to Windows 11 due to an Intel sound driver issue.
-
The issue affected devices with Intel 11th Gen Core processors and specific Intel Smart Sound Technology driver versions.
-
The hold was in place since November 2021 when Windows 11 launched.
-
The issue is now resolved by updating to the latest Intel sound drivers.
-
After updating drivers, affected Windows 10 systems should now be offered the Windows 11 upgrade within 48 hours.
