Microsoft's Panos Panay, Father of Surface, Leaves Company After 19 Years

Panos Panay, Microsoft's chief product officer, is leaving the company after over 19 years.

Panay led the creation of the Surface brand and products over the past decade.

Surface sales have lagged behind Microsoft's growth in cloud services and Windows.

Yusuf Mehdi will now lead the Windows and Surface businesses externally.

The leadership changes take effect immediately, just before Microsoft's expected Surface launch event.
