Microsoft Unbundles Teams from Office 365 Globally to Settle EU Antitrust Probe

Microsoft is unbundling Teams from Office 365 and Microsoft 365 globally, after previously only doing so in Europe. This follows an EU antitrust investigation.

The change comes after complaints from Teams competitor Slack about Microsoft using Office dominance to push Teams.

From April 1st, new customers can choose standalone Teams for $5.25/month and Office without Teams starting at $7.75/month.

Microsoft says over 300 million users now use Teams. Growth exploded early in the pandemic to 75 million users by April 2020.

The EU was concerned Microsoft was limiting interoperability between Office and competing products and restricting customer choice by bundling Teams.
