UK Lawmakers Urge PM to Designate Iran's Revolutionary Guard as Terror Group
-
Over 100 UK parliamentarians signed a statement urging the PM to designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
-
The signatories say the IRGC spreads "terrorism" and blocks peace in the Middle East. Designating it would send Iran a message against aggression.
-
It comes after recent IRGC-backed attacks on Western targets. The US has encouraged allies to designate the IRGC as terrorists.
-
Senior Conservatives like David Davis and Iain Duncan Smith have also called for the IRGC to be banned.
-
The statement says Iran is the "head of the snake" of conflict in the region. It condemns Iran's "destructive role" and calls to recognize Iranian opposition groups.
