NASA Taps 3 Companies to Design Lunar Rover for Future Moon Missions
- NASA chose 3 private companies (Intuitive Machines, Lunar Outpost, Venturi Astrolab) to design lunar vehicles for Artemis program
- Companies will propose designs for a Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV) to explore the lunar surface; 1 will get up to $4.6B contract
- LTV expected to survive South Pole conditions, explore moon autonomously, transport equipment & samples
- Astronauts to use LTV starting in Artemis V mission around 2030 to travel to new locations and conduct research
- Winning company will produce demonstration vehicle; NASA wants to test LTV on moon before 2030 mission
