Republican Turner Presses Biden on Responding to Iran's Attacks on Israel
-
NBC host Kristen Welker pressed Rep. Mike Turner on if the U.S. should strike Iran in response to Iran's attack on Israel. Turner said Iran should face consequences but did not directly say yes to striking them.
-
Welker noted some Republicans have called for directly striking Iran, questioning if Turner would support that. Turner said Iran believes they have a "free pass" to attack Israel without U.S. response.
-
Turner stated he believes Iran will attack Israel again if the U.S. does not make clear there will be consequences for continued attacks. He criticized the Biden administration for giving Iran $6 billion to release detainees.
-
Welker pointed out the $6 billion in previously frozen Iranian assets remain frozen, though Turner argued the administration still allowed Iran access to money it didn't previously have.
-
Turner said the administration fails to recognize Iran as an adversary coordinating attacks through proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah, saying the U.S. must "step up to the plate."
