Netflix to Drop Support for Older TVs and Devices Starting October 2023
-
Netflix is discontinuing support for older, unsupported TVs and devices starting October 16, 2023. Devices over 10 years old are being impacted.
-
This is not the first time Netflix has ended support for older devices, having previously dropped support for some Roku, Samsung, and Vizio devices in 2019.
-
Reasons given for ending support include security issues, providing a good user experience on aging/slow devices, and supporting new features.
-
Affected users are being directed to Netflix's help page to find supported devices like smart TVs, streaming players, game consoles, etc.
-
Cheap streaming device options exist for less than $30 like Roku Express, Amazon Fire Stick, or Walmart's $19.99 Onn Google TV device.
