Lyft Launches New Women-Only Rideshare Feature to Improve Safety and Boost Female Drivers
-
Lyft introduced a new feature called Women+ Connect that allows female and nonbinary riders and drivers to be matched together.
-
The goal is to improve safety and encourage more women to drive for Lyft. Currently only 23% of Lyft drivers are women.
-
Lyft consulted the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives on the feature. They believe it will reduce violence against female passengers.
-
The feature will launch first in 5 cities with a high proportion of female drivers before expanding nationwide.
-
Lyft hopes the feature will make female passengers feel more comfortable and encourage more women to become Lyft drivers. Currently only half of riders but just 23% of drivers are women.
