Nigeria Seeks to Join Expanding BRICS Alliance in 2024

Nigeria is exploring joining the BRICS economic alliance in 2024, according to its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yussuf Tuggar.

BRICS confirmed it will expand membership at its 2024 annual summit, similar to inviting 6 nations last year, 5 of which joined.

Over the past year BRICS has increased in prominence amid efforts to de-dollarize and its expansion in 2023 was a major geopolitical development.

Last year BRICS invited Argentina, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia to join, only Argentina declined.

There are over 25 nations seeking to join BRICS currently, so Nigeria will likely be among many potential invitees in 2024.
