Mod Unlocks Resizable BAR Support for Older Nvidia GPUs, But Not Without Risks
-
Modders have enabled Resizable Bar (ReBAR) support for older Nvidia GTX 16-series and RTX 20-series GPUs via a mod called NvStrapsReBar. This requires modifying the motherboard's UEFI.
-
The mod works by adding the ReBAR driver to a copy of the motherboard's BIOS file, reflashing the BIOS, and then configuring parameters from within Windows.
-
There are some downsides - you'll need to re-do the process when swapping GPUs, reflash the BIOS for updates, and enable ReBAR in games individually.
-
The modder has been collecting community reports since December 2021 and has gathered a lengthy list of supported configurations.
-
Although there are risks with BIOS modding, the mod works and can provide small performance boosts in some games that support Resizable BAR.
