Study Finds 10% of Real-World Chatbot Conversations Focus on Erotic Topics

Researchers analyzed 100,000 real-world chatbot conversations and found 10% were focused on erotic topics.

The erotic conversations were categorized as requests for explicit stories, sexual roleplaying, and discussing toxic behaviors.

Explicit story requests were the most common at 5.71% of samples, followed by roleplaying at 3.91% and toxic behavior at 2.66%.

Researchers gathered data from a "Chatbot Arena" site and an open-source ChatGPT competitor called Vicuña.

The study sampled 210,000 unique IP addresses worldwide to analyze real chatbot use beyond academic and business contexts.
