UK Retailer Stops Selling Onewheel Boards After US Recall Over Crash Deaths
-
UK retailer The Snowboard Shop has stopped selling Onewheel electric skateboards following a recall in the US.
-
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled 300,000 Onewheel devices after 4 deaths were linked to crashes while riding them.
-
The recall covers all models of Onewheel skateboards. The CPSC cited dozens of injury reports including fractures, paralysis, and traumatic brain injuries.
-
Onewheel manufacturer Future Motion is facing 31 lawsuits from riders alleging the devices unexpectedly shut off or stopped while in use.
-
Future Motion says it will offer a safety feature called "haptic buzz" to alert riders before the board loses balance, but only newer models are compatible. Older boards get a $100 credit.
