TSA Firearm Interceptions at Airports Remain High in Early 2024
- TSA intercepted 1,503 firearms at US airports in Q1 2024, very close to the 1,508 intercepted in Q1 2023
- This equals an average of 16.5 firearm interceptions per day from Jan-March 2024
- Despite more passengers screened, the firearm interception rate decreased slightly
- Shockingly, 93% of intercepted firearms were loaded with ammunition in both 2023 and 2024
- Passengers can transport firearms on flights if properly packed and declared, but not through security checkpoints
