Pentagon Seeks Low-Cost AI Drones to Support Fighter Jets
-
The Pentagon is seeking to develop low-cost AI attack drones through its Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) project, which has a $6 billion budget to add at least 1,000 new drones.
-
Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, General Atomics and Anduril Industries are competing for two CCA contracts to build the drones.
-
The drones would deploy alongside piloted jets, provide them cover and support, and conduct intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
-
Boeing has unveiled its entrant "Ghost Bat" drone, while Anduril has showcased its AI-powered "Roadrunner" jet drone.
-
General Atomics and Lockheed Martin have also exhibited drones with advanced AI capabilities that could give them an edge in the CCA competition.
