Vegetable Prices Soar Ahead of Ramazan, Causing Financial Strain for Pakistani Consumers

Prices of vegetables like onions and potatoes have sharply increased ahead of Ramazan, causing hardship for consumers already facing high utility bills.

Onion prices have risen from Rs150/kg to as high as Rs300/kg due to unchecked exports, despite availability of imported onions.

Fruit prices have also gone up, with melons, apples and bananas seeing significant increases compared to pre-Ramazan rates.

Wholesale fruit prices have jumped 30-40%, leading to higher retail prices. Banana smuggling blamed for its high cost.

Business community has urged the Sindh government to take strict measures to control profiteering by shopkeepers ahead of Ramazan.
