Putin Gifts Kim Jong-Un Russian Luxury Car, Drawing Ire from South Korea for Violating UN Sanctions

Russian President Vladimir Putin gifted a luxury car made by Russian company Aurus to North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, which South Korea says violates UN sanctions.

The car is for Kim's "personal use," and his sister thanked Putin, calling it a sign of the leaders' "special personal relations."

Kremlin spokesperson confirmed the gift is an Aurus Senat, which is Putin's presidential limousine.

Officials in Seoul condemned the gift as a violation of UN bans on transferring luxury items to North Korea.

Russia, as a permanent UN Security Council member, should be aware of its responsibility not to undermine international norms, the officials said.
