DOJ Leaders Meet to Discuss Efforts to Dismantle Human Trafficking Networks
• Acting Assistant AG Argentieri convened a meeting with 5 US Attorneys and DOJ leaders to discuss efforts of Joint Task Force Alpha (JTFA) to dismantle human smuggling and trafficking networks at the Southwest Border.
• Attorney General Garland attended and highlighted JTFA's work, which has resulted in over 260 arrests, 170 convictions, significant jail sentences, and asset seizures.
• The meeting focused on using resources to enhance US enforcement efforts against prolific, dangerous smuggling/trafficking networks in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
• JTFA relies on cooperation between DOJ sections, DHS, FBI, DEA and foreign law enforcement partners for investigations, arrests, and extraditions.
• Acting Assistant AG Argentieri reaffirmed the Criminal Division's commitment to leading and supporting JTFA's work to disrupt criminal networks exploiting migrants.
