India Sees Progress in Development and Gender Equality, But Gaps Persist
- India's life expectancy increased to 67.7 years in 2022, gross national income (GNI) per capita rose to $6,951
- India ranked 108 out of 193 countries on the 2022 Gender Inequality Index, up from 122 out of 191 countries in 2021
- India placed 134 out of 193 countries on the 2023/24 UN Human Development Index after a drop in 2021
- India recorded one of the largest gender gaps in labor force participation - a 47.8% difference between women and men
- Between 1990-2022, India's HDI value increased by 48.4%, from 0.434 to 0.644, reflecting remarkable human development progress
