Rivian Unveils More Affordable R3 Electric Crossover and Rally-Inspired R3X to Expand Globally

Rivian unveiled the R3, a more affordable midsize electric crossover, and the high-performance R3X, inspired by iconic rally cars like the Audi Quattro.

The R3X features a hatchback design that reminds some of a Volkswagen Golf or hot hatch from the 1980s.

Rivian's chief designer said the goal was a modern yet nostalgic design, drawing inspiration from vehicles like the Delta Integrale.

The R3 will help Rivian expand into new global markets like Europe with its smaller, more affordable EV.

Rivian is taking $100 refundable deposits for the R2, which will enter production in early 2026, followed by the R3 and R3X models.
