Roku Considers Controversial Ads During Video Gameplay and Other Content
- Roku filed a patent for showing ads over any content on Roku TVs, even when not using Roku apps
- The system would detect pauses or breaks in video/game feeds and overlay "relevant" ads
- It would use content recognition to identify what's on screen and target ads accordingly
- This seems invasive, but big companies often file patents they don't end up using
