Russian Cosmonaut Sets New Record with Over 878 Days in Space, Eyes 1,000
- Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko has set a new world record for most cumulative time spent in space at over 878 days and 12 hours, surpassing the previous record holder Gennady Padalka
- This is Kononenko's 5th mission to the ISS dating back to 2008
- Kononenko says flying to space fulfills his childhood dream of becoming a cosmonaut
- Kononenko launched on his current ISS expedition on Sept. 15, 2022 along with two others
- By mission's end, Kononenko is expected to become the first person to log over 1,000 days in space
