Putin Orders Russian Govt to Develop Rival Video Game Consoles to PS and Xbox by 2026
-
Vladimir Putin has ordered the Russian government to develop a domestically-produced video game console and handheld to rival PlayStation and Xbox, with a deadline of June 2024.
-
The project will be overseen by Russia's Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, in partnership with the Organisation for Developing the Video Game Industry.
-
It's part of an 83-point plan laid out in February to help Russia develop its own gaming industry.
-
The target release for the new Russian console is 2026 or 2027.
-
This lines up with expected release timelines for the next PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
