Samsung Considers Matching Google's 7 Years of Security Updates for Pixel Phones

Samsung is considering extending security update support beyond 5 years for its devices, in response to Google's 7 years of updates for Pixel.

Samsung currently updates over 1 billion devices monthly, with over 10 billion annually. It has a strong track record of fast security patches.

Samsung promises 4 OS updates and 5 years security patches for mid-range and flagship devices. Google now offers 7 years with Pixel.

A Samsung executive noted they have discussed expanding security update support beyond 5 years, as part of their vision.

For now, Samsung seems focused on security patches, not OS updates. If policy changes, expect announcement with Galaxy S24 launch.
