Saudi Arabia Launches $300 Million Electricity Link With Iraq, Boosting Regional Power Grid Integration

Saudi Arabia inaugurated a $300 million electricity connection platform with Iraq as part of the Gulf electricity market project.

The platform allows Iraq to exchange and trade electric power with GCC countries, facilitating cross-border electricity trade.

The project is expected to contribute $200-300 million annually to GCC energy sales.

GCCIA is undertaking expansion projects to connect with Kuwait, UAE, and Oman's electricity networks.

Since its inception, the GCCIA project has contributed estimated savings of about $3 billion compared to $1.5 billion in costs.
