Rabbani Objects to SIFC Discussing Education Policy, Says it Infringes on Provincial Autonomy
-
Former Senate chairman Raza Rabbani said the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) was infringing on provincial autonomy by taking up education matters like the education policy and out-of-school children.
-
Rabbani said education is a devolved subject after the 18th Amendment, so the SIFC should not be taking it up. The appropriate constitutional forum is the Council of Common Interests.
-
The SIFC met to discuss an "education emergency" proposal and a new education policy to address the high number of out-of-school children in Pakistan.
-
The new education policy will focus on areas like enrollment, dropouts, quality, technology, skills development, curriculum etc.
-
Pakistan still has the outdated 2009 National Education Policy in place. Previous governments failed to introduce a new policy.
