Singapore PM Lee to step down in May after 20 years, handing power to deputy Wong
- Singapore PM Lee Hsien Loong will step down on May 15 after 20 years in power
- He will hand over power to his deputy, Lawrence Wong, who is the current Deputy PM and Finance Minister
- Wong has unanimous support from the ruling People's Action Party lawmakers to succeed Lee
- Lee had originally planned to step down before age 70 but postponed due to COVID-19
- The transition is occurring now to allow Wong to gain his own mandate in elections before 2023
