College Costs Soar Above $90K at New England Schools Like Tufts and Wellesley, Despite Generous Financial Aid

Several New England colleges will cost over $90,000 for the 2024-2025 school year, including Tufts ($96,000), Wellesley ($92,000), Yale ($91,000), and Boston University ($90,000).

Costs are rising much faster than overall inflation, with Wellesley's fees increasing 4.7% and the Consumer Price Index rising 3.2% in the past year.

Financial aid is helping defray costs, with Wellesley meeting 100% of need and providing an average aid package of $67,469.

Boston University is awarding $425 million in financial aid, with 56% of domestic students receiving an average package of $67,000.

Yale has tripled its undergraduate financial aid budget since 2007-2008, now spending $241 million to meet 100% of demonstrated need.
