Steam Celebrates 20th Anniversary, Gives Badges to Oldest User Accounts

Some of Steam's oldest user accounts are turning 20 years old this week. Valve is giving them special badges to celebrate.

Steam first launched in September 2003 and has grown into the largest digital PC gaming store.

The badge uses Steam's original green color scheme, prompting nostalgia and feelings of aging for early adopters.

Many original Steam users were drawn by Counter-Strike. They used an external program to find CS servers before Steam existed.

Some 20-year-old Steam accounts are still active today, despite the platform undergoing major evolutions over two decades.
