Under Armour CEO Linnartz Out After Less Than a Year; Founder Kevin Plank Replacing Her

Under Armour announced that founder Kevin Plank will replace CEO Stephanie Linnartz, effective April 1st. This comes less than a year into her tenure.

Linnartz knew taking the CEO job was a risky move given Plank still controlled the company and was reluctant to give up control.

There are now more examples of women taking on risky CEO jobs working with difficult founders or predecessors.

Women CEO tenures are already shorter than men's, and replacing male founders seems especially difficult.

Linnartz's abrupt departure gives another data point about the challenges women CEOs face, especially with founder-controlled companies.
