Stocks End Mixed as Nasdaq Drops; Small Caps Rally on Russell 2000 Gain

The major stock market indexes closed barely mixed Tuesday, with the Nasdaq taking the biggest hit. Small caps rallied, with the Russell 2000 up 1.1%.

Nvidia shares fell 4.7% on new U.S. trade restrictions with China, while VMware sank over 7% on merger speculation.

The 10-year Treasury yield hit a 52-week high of 4.846%, influencing the weakness in stocks. The 2-year yield reached 5.212%, also a 52-week high.

Wyndham Hotels jumped 9% after rejecting a buyout proposal from Choice Hotels, which fell over 6%.

VF Corp, owner of brands like The North Face and Vans, soared nearly 14% as activist firm Engaged Capital took a stake to push cost cuts.
