Georgia GOP Lawmakers Targeted by Series of 'Swatting' Hoax Calls
-
Several Republican lawmakers in Georgia had police show up at their homes due to fake 911 "swatting" calls on Christmas Day and the day after. Those targeted included Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and 3 state senators.
-
The fake 911 calls claimed emergencies like shootings and hostage situations were happening at the lawmakers' homes. Armed police responded ready for dangerous situations but found the calls were hoaxes.
-
Greene said this was the 8th time her home had been "swatted." The other lawmakers had not been targeted this way before.
-
Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns condemned the "shameful, dangerous and reprehensible" swatting incidents and said the perpetrators should be prosecuted.
-
Lt. Governor Burt Jones called the swatting calls "dangerous and cowardly" and said he wants to strengthen laws to enable prosecution of those responsible.
