Gaetz said he was pushing conservative measures as negotiation tactics and understands legislating requires negotiation.

Gaetz said he wants negotiation on single-subject spending bills rather than global deals funding the whole government.

Gaetz said he held a "political gun" to McCarthy's head to force votes on appropriations bills before the shutdown deadline.
