Boeing, Spirit AeroSystems Found Using Soap Instead of Approved Lubricants in 737 Max Production: FAA Audit

Mechanics at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems used liquid Dawn soap to lubricate a 737 Max door seal, per FAA audit findings reported by the NYT.

The FAA found Boeing failed 33 of 89 product audits related to 737 Max production, while Spirit failed 7 of 13 audits.

Most issues flagged involved staff not following approved procedures or properly documenting quality control.

The report comes after the FAA gave Boeing 90 days in February to submit a plan to fix quality control problems.

In response, Boeing CEO said the company has "a clear picture of what needs to be done" to address the FAA's demands.
