Whitney Museum Exhibits Pioneering A.I. Art System Created by Late Abstract Painter Harold Cohen
-
Harold Cohen was an abstract painter who pioneered A.I.-generated art starting in the late 1960s with a program called Aaron.
-
Cohen's goal was to have Aaron create art from scratch using knowledge about objects, physics, drawing techniques, etc. rather than relying on databases of images.
-
The Whitney Museum exhibition showcases two versions of Aaron - from 2001 and 2007 - that Cohen created before his death in 2016.
-
The 2001 version generates figural and plant images projected large-scale, while the 2007 version produces jungle scenes.
-
The exhibition will allow Aaron to create physical artworks on paper for the first time since the 1990s.
