China Launches Tianhe-3, Believed to Be World's Most Powerful Supercomputer
• China has quietly launched the Tianhe-3 supercomputer, believed to be the world's most powerful with over 2 exaflops performance • Tianhe-3 uses a hybrid CPU-GPU processor architecture that may be similar to AMD's Antares or use an indigenous chiplet design • The processor, called Matrix-3000 (MT-3000), has 3 different kinds of on-chip memory and accelerators • Tianhe-3 will support high performance computing, AI, and big data applications for Guangzhou and Guangdong • The supercomputer was analyzed when code for programming its MT-3000 accelerators was submitted on arXiv
