X Rolls Out Default Audio & Video Calling With Privacy Controls
-
X (formerly Twitter) has enabled audio and video calls for all users by default. This means anyone you follow can call you.
-
Go to settings to disable calls entirely or limit who can call you (contacts, followers, verified users, everyone).
-
Enable "Enhanced call privacy" to hide your IP address from callers. This prevents them from seeing your location.
-
If both parties have privacy disabled, calls are peer-to-peer and IP addresses are visible. If enabled, calls route through X servers.
-
Calls are only available in the X smartphone apps. Unclear if they are encrypted.
