US Awards Record $3.46 Billion in Grants to Strengthen Electric Grid for Clean Energy

The US Department of Energy is awarding $3.46B in grants to upgrade and strengthen the electric grid for renewable energy. This is the largest-ever US investment in the grid.

The grants are part of the $10.5B Grid Resilience and Innovation Partnerships program funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The objective is to prevent blackouts and connect over 35GW of new clean energy. Projects include 400 microgrids across 44 states.

Some grants focus on resilience against extreme weather. Others support smart grid technology and regional coordination.

The International Energy Agency recently called for rapid global grid improvements to support clean energy. This investment acts on that urgent need.
