By extracting the critical "consensus code", developers can modify other parts of the code without fear of unintentionally causing a hard fork.

Libbitcoinkernel could enable multiple Bitcoin client implementations, increasing decentralization and resilience.

Previous attempts at extracting the consensus code were abandoned, so libbitcoinkernel is taking an incremental approach.

The project will take years to fully complete the extraction of all the consensus code from Bitcoin Core.
