GOP Lawmaker: McCarthy Spending Cut Deal 'Doesn't Exist' With Speakership in Doubt

Rep. Tom Cole says Republicans are no longer bound by McCarthy's agreement to cut spending now that McCarthy is out as speaker.

Cole calls the agreement "faulty from the beginning" and says it "doesn't exist at all" now.

Cole's comments could embolden GOP centrists to resist the spending cuts in the fight over the next speaker.

The agriculture spending bill went down in September due in part to confusion over the McCarthy agreement.

Whoever becomes the next speaker will need Cole's help to deal with the next spending crisis when funding expires Nov. 17.
