Trump Seeks Recusal of Judge in Jan. 6 Trial Over Claims of Bias in Her Comments

Former President Trump filed a motion to recuse Judge Tanya Chutkan from his trial over comments she made in other Jan. 6 cases.

Judge Chutkan said some defendants showed "blind loyalty" to someone who remains free, which Trump argues shows bias against him.

In another case, the judge said those who encouraged the rioters have not been charged, but stated it's not her role to charge people.

Legal experts say the judge's comments do not meet the high bar required for recusal under the law.

Trump argues the judge relied on information from outside the cases, but her remarks were made in direct response to defenses raised by Jan. 6 defendants.
