TSA Tests Self-Service Screening at Las Vegas Airport to Speed Up Security
-
TSA unveiled a new "self-service screening system" checkpoint prototype at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. It's available to some TSA PreCheck passengers from 530am-130pm in Terminal 3.
-
The checkpoint has stations where passengers put items in bins, send them down a conveyor belt, then walk through an advanced imaging scanner that gives real-time feedback.
-
Goal is to reduce passenger interaction with agents and make the process faster. Could require 5-8 agents instead of 12 per two lanes.
-
TSA will gather feedback over the next months to see if this concept should be improved and potentially expanded.
-
Concept allows passengers to move at their own pace rather than being delayed by others, like a grocery store self-checkout. TSA says it reduces friction points.
