• Ubisoft is developing AI NPCs that can have more natural conversations with players beyond prewritten lines • The NEO NPC project uses generative AI and a character's backstory to generate responses on the fly during conversations • The goal is to create the feeling of a "real conversation" while still having narrative designers create personalities and boundaries • Responses are limited by a character's role and story arcs to prevent breaking immersion or generating unsafe content • This is a prototype tool still in early stages, with the goal of ultimately being flexible for use in AAA and smaller Ubisoft games
