Unifor Ratifies Landmark 3-Year Deal with Ford Canada, Averting Strike
-
Unifor members in Canada voted to approve a new 3-year contract with Ford. It includes the largest general wage increase ever negotiated by the union.
-
The contract provides wage increases of 10% the first year, 2% the second year, and 3% the third year. It also reduces time for workers to reach top pay scale.
-
The deal was reached just minutes before the contract expiration, avoiding a strike like the one underway in the U.S. between UAW and automakers.
-
Permanent workers will get a $10,000 Canadian ratification bonus, temporary workers $4,000. Retirement programs also get increases.
-
Unifor will soon announce its next target company for negotiations now that Ford contract is ratified.
