Inflation Remains High as Consumer Prices Rise More Than Expected in September
- Consumer Price Index rose 3.7% annually in September, slightly above expectations
- Shelter costs accounted for over half of the monthly CPI increase
- Food inflation matched overall inflation rate of 3.7% for the first time since early 2022
- Core CPI (excluding food and gas) cooled for 6th straight month, rose 4.1% annually
- Federal Reserve looking for signs of declining inflation but it remains above target levels
