U.S. Job Openings Hold Steady Near Record High in February While Layoffs Tick Up
- U.S. job openings were 8.76 million in February, up slightly from 8.75 million in January
- Layoffs ticked up to 1.7 million in February, highest since March 2023
- Number of Americans quitting jobs rose modestly to 3.5 million in February
- Job openings down from peak of 12.2 million in March 2022 but still at a high level
- Economists expect 193,000 jobs added in March and unemployment rate to dip to 3.8%
