Clearview AI Avoids UK Fine Despite Billions of UK Images

U.S. facial recognition company Clearview AI won an appeal against a £7.5 million fine from the UK's Information Commissioner's Office for alleged GDPR breaches.

The UK court ruled it does not have jurisdiction over Clearview as a foreign company, despite it having billions of images of UK citizens.

Clearview has been fined multiple times in Europe for GDPR breaches, but has avoided paying some fines.

Clearview has close ties to law enforcement and its data practices have raised civil rights concerns in the US.

Clearview makes it very difficult for people to have their images removed from its database, with only residents of 5 US states able to request removal.
